Eating Out in Philadelphia with “A Seeking Spirit:” Fogo De Chao

April 30, 2024 / Ian Gabriel Finch

True health is to be found in having a positive attitude toward life and a strong self that refuses to be defeated by anything.”  ― Daisaku Ikeda

I Love Food…

I will be saying this, many times, in many different blog posts in varying ways. I love FOOD! I love cooking! I love dining out and I love eating!  Despite my frugal living, as I attempt to get this blog a profitable enterprise, I am saving my “scheckles” to spend on trips to restaurants that keep popping up on my radar- as if the Universe is calling me to eat there!

Seeing this restaurant everywhere I go

Since heading to the “Your First Million Live” Conference, I have been passing this restaurant on the street whether home in Los Angeles, or during my trip to the Philadelphia Gayborhood.

Heaven for Meat Eaters of any Age

If you love food, if you love meat, you must, must, must save your pennies for the culinary treat of dining at Fogo De Chao, Brazilian Steakhouse. Fogo De Chao is a national chain and I hazard to say is worth the trip wherever you live. I chose to go to Fogo De Chao in King of Prussia, a suburb of the City of Philadelphia.  I chose this spot because, this was an experience I wanted to share with my niece Annie, my sister Lady D and her boyfriend Jazzy J. I thought it a fun way to say thanks for their support “above and beyond” of me as I am stepping out of my comfort zone to make my business a success. Their faith and support has made this challenging time also a fun time!

Upscale dining experience

The restaurant itself was beautifully constructed with darkened woods and chandeliers that gave an understated sense of elegance to the dining experience. As described on Wikipedia, Fogo de Chão (Brazilian Portuguese[ˈfoɡu dʒi ˈʃɐ̃w]Portuguese for ‘Ground Fire’) is a Brazilian chain of rodízio-style steakhouses (churrascarias) founded in 1979 by brothers Arri and Jair Coser. The restaurant chain specializes in Southern Brazilian cuisine, primarily serving churrasco barbecued meats and traditional side dishes.[3] First established in the Brazilian city of Porto Alegre, the chain has over 70 locations throughout Brazil, the United States (including Puerto Rico), Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Mexico as of 2023.[4]

The Full Experience

As my first trip to Fogo De Chao, I didn’t bother looking at the menu or even checking out the rather large salad bar.  I went with what the main waiter referred to as “the full experience.”

The full experience entailed one waiter after another coming to your table with a steel skewer of some form of marinated and roasted meat. From Parmesan coated pork, to medium rare steak, lamb, steak wrapped in bacon, they kept coming one at a time. You had a circular coaster to let waiters know if you were ready to eat. On one side it was green Saying “YES, PLEASE” which brought on the skewers or a red coaster on the other side saying “NO, THANKS” signaling you were taking a break from more food or were done for the night.

Each piece of meat was so flavorful and delicious, I had a hard time saying what I liked the most. The parmesan coated pork however, was definitely a major contender for first prize. Their side of mashed potatoes were also majorly addictive.

I Will Be a Return Visitor

I left completely satisfied without feeling bloated or stuffed despite the fact I skipped the salad bar and dessert menu. This was my first meat only meal and I loved every minute of it. I definitely, think going to Fogo De Chao is best experienced with at least one other person so you can take your time and enjoy the experience for what it is without feeling self-conscious.

Didn’t Break my bank

For a party of four with maybe two alcoholic drinks, I spent just under $300 dollars tip not included. That said, this Fogo De Chao and its waiters definitely earned their 20 % tip!

My plan is to check out a Fogo De Chao in Los Angeles. I want to see if the experience is similar in LA. I think I would like to try the full experience with a trip to the salad bar and explore their dessert menu just to shake things up. Haha!.

Highly Recommend making a Reservation

Fogo De Chao will not disappoint you if you love meat in any way. I would however, make a reservation because our restaurant was quite busy and you don’t want to risk a long wait for an empty table.

The customer service was without question – excellent. I didn’t check out the restrooms but will be certain to do so and comment in an article after my next visit.

Since Fogo De Chao is a national chain, do yourself a favor and go to their website to find a restaurant near you and then make a reservation when you are ready for a fun night out with someone you care about.
